PROJECT STATUS REPORT as of 19-Aug-2019

Marsh Island Hydrologic Restoration

PROJECT LOCATION:

The project is located in St. Mary Parish on the Marsh Island Wildlife Refuge.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Natural erosional processes and subsidence along the northeast shoreline of Marsh Island have led to the deterioration of the north rim of Lake Sand. The objective of the project is to stabilize the northeastern shoreline of Marsh Island, including the northern shoreline of Lake Sand, and help to restore historical hydrology. The project consists of construction of 9 plugs in oil and gas canals at the NE end of Marsh Island; protection of the NE shoreline with rock; and isolation of Lake Sand from Vermilion Bay with rock dike.

PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 18-Oct-2002 )

Approval of model CSA for PPL 5, 6 and 8 projects granted on November 13, 2000. CSA executed on February 1, 2001. Advertised as 100% small business set-aside. Construction began July 2001 and completed December 2001.

Revised design of closures from earthen to rock because soil borings indicate highly organic material in borrow area.

FUND STATUS:

The current project estimate is $5,143,323 , which includes $3,769,576 for construction first costs, and $673,747 and $700,000 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
