PROJECT LOCATION:

East Island of the Isles Dernieres, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The project objectives are to restore the coastal dunes and wetlands of the Eastern Isles Dernieres, enhance the physical integrity of the island, and protect the lower Terrebonne estuary and associated vegetated wetlands against direct exposure to the Gulf of Mexico, while increasing technical information on the restoration of barrier islands. Restoration of East Island and Trinity Island combined is 7.5 miles.

PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 01-Jan-1990 )

This phase of the Isles Dernieres restoration project was combined with Isles Dernieres, Phase I (Trinity Island), a priority list 2 project. Additional funds to cover the increased construction cost on lowest bid received were approved at the January 16, 1998 Task Force meeting. Construction start was January 16, 1998. Hydraulic dredging was completed September 1998. Vegetation planting was completed June 1999.

FUND STATUS:

The current project estimate is $8,663,767 , which includes $8,250,886 for construction first costs, and $412,881 and $0 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
