Grand Bayou Hydrologic Restoration DEAUTHORIZED
PROJECT LOCATION:
The project is located in Lafourche Parish approximately 10 miles southwest of Larose, LA.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project has been downsized to affect 17,000 acres of wetlands located between Bayou Pointe au Chien and Grand Bayou Canal/Cutoff Canal. Project features have been reduced to include a water control structure on Bayou Pointe au Chien just south of its junction with St. Louis Canal, the Relief Structure on Grand Bayou, and the Pipeline structure on Grand Bayou Canal. Several small interior structures would be removed and existing spoil banks gapped to improve water flow.
PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 05-Feb-2008 )
Based on hydrologic modeling results, the project would result in net salinity increases rather than decreases. Staff of the Pointe au Chene Wildlife Management Area, DNR, and USFWS have agreed to begin pursuing project de-authoriztion.
FUND STATUS:
The current project estimate is $1,452,357 , which includes $1,106,026 for construction first costs, and $346,331 and $0 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
