COASTAL WETLANDS PLANNING, PROTECTION AND RESTORATION ACT

PROJECT STATUS REPORT as of 18-Apr-2024

New Orleans Landbridge Shoreline & Marsh Creation

PROJECT LOCATION:

The project area is located in the Lake Pontchartrain Basin (Region 1) in Orleans Parish. U.S. Highway 90 cuts through the center of the two units along the old Bayou Sauvage distributary ridge (also known as the East Orleans Landbridge).

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Approximately 284 acres of brackish marsh will be restored using approximately 1.3 million cubic yards of material dredged from two borrow areas in Lakes St. Catherine and Pontchartrain and from flotation access dredging. Material will be placed in four (3) marsh restoration areas. To achieve the project goals, the dredged slurry will be placed to a constructed fill elevation of +2.0 ft NAVD88 with a goal of the platform settling into the inundation range over the design life. Containment dikes will be built to an elevation between +3.5 and +3.0. Containment dikes fronting the lake side of the marsh creation cells will be armored with articulated concreate mats (ACM).
