Highway 384 Hydrologic Restoration

PROJECT LOCATION:

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The project purpose is to restore the natural hydrology of the project area and eliminate undesirably high salinities and severe water fluctuations, tremendously reduce the potential for future marsh losses. The project features include the installation of five 48-inch diameter flapgated culverts with 8 foot variable crest weirs, three 24-inch diameter culverts with interior flapgates and exterior screw gates at the GIWW, a shell plug along Calcasieu Lake shoreline to repair a breach and replace the existing 24-inch open culvert to reduce impoundment in a portion of the project.

PROJECT STATUS: (Project Status Last Updated: 6-Dec-2002 )

Construction start slipped from November 1997 to July 1999 because of landright issues. All landright agreements signed. Construction complete January 7, 2000.

O&M plan executed. Maintenance contract complete. Minor damage from Hurricane Lili to be repaired. Contract in preparation.

FUND STATUS:

The current project estimate is $1,479,587 , which includes $317,725 for construction first costs, and $394,931 and $766,931 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
