New Orleans First Ever Earth Day Festival

April 5th, Bayou St. John, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Featuring a Festival First SOLAR POWERED Stage

Event to Focus on a Green Future for Louisiana!

(New Orleans) The first ever New Orleans Earth Day Festival, presented by
the Louisiana Bucket Brigade, will take place on Sunday, April 5 from 10
a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents of New Orleans understand more than anyone the need
for environmental protection, said Anne Rolfes of the Louisiana Bucket
Brigade, the group organizing the event. We will celebrate the good work of
New Orleans environmental groups, learn about alternative energy and make
the case for a strong green economy and reduced pollution here in Louisiana.

The event features the Coastal Lines of Defense stage, a coalition including
the Gulf Restoration Network, the Lake Ponchartrain Basin Foundation and the
Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana. The culture of New Orleans is
absolutely linked to its environment and our coast, said Aaron Viles of the
Gulf Restoration Network. We're excited to partner on a festival that ties
it all together. The groups have organized great music, including:

Big Sams Funky Nation

Anders Osborne, Kirk Joseph and friends

Amanda Shaw and the Cute Guys

The event is FREE and open to all. Anyone bringing a reusable cup (Mardi
Gras cups anyone?) will get $1 off of all soft drinks or beer.

The stage will be powered by solar panels, the first-ever festival to use
renewable energy.

Where: Bayou St. John at Orleans Avenue
When: Sunday, April 5th, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Festival brings together environmental organizations from around the
city to celebrate a Green Future for our state and defend Louisiana from
threats to our environment and way of life.

Event highlights:

A city wide bicycle tour led by the Crescent City Cyclists. The ride will
tour green buildings and pollution hotspots

A kids tent organized by Bayou Rebirth; kids will build wetlands

Two speakers tents: Louisianas Green Future and Defending Louisiana

Solar companies

Craft vendors including used books and bikes, clocks made from vinyl
records, natural soaps and hand stitched aprons

Jambalaya, hot sausage and beer in plentiful supply

9 a.m. Bike ride with Crescent City Cyclists leaves festival grounds at 9 AM
10 a.m. Festival opens! Food, beer and kids' activities begin
11 a.m. Earth Day presentations and speakers begin

Speakers include representatives from the Lower Ninth Ward Urban Farming
Coalition, Make it Right Foundation, Hollygrove Market, Social Entrepreneurs
of New Orleans, Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development, Green
Coast Enterprises, Tulane Environmental Law Clinic and residents from
Louisianas Cancer Alley.
