The America's WETLAND Conservation Corps
AmeriCorps Program
is looking for members for the 2008 service year

Purpose:

An America's Wetland Conservation Corps (AWCC) member will work in their
local parishes to raise public awareness of the importance of wetlands to
the state of Louisiana, and they will demonstrate ways all Louisiana
residents can contribute to wetland restoration. This will include, but is
not limited to, organizing and participating in wetland restoration
projects, developing and teaching wetland outreach education lessons,
helping distribute and teach Youth Wetlands Week lessons, and recruiting
community volunteers to participate in wetland activities.

What you receive:

* $16,000 (full time) or $8000 (part time) yearly living allowance (over 11
months)
* $4725 (full time) or $2356 (part time) education award (scholarship) upon
successful completion of the program
* Health Insurance Plan (for full time members)
* Child Care Reimbursement (for eligible full time members)

Expectations:

* Be willing to serve 1700 hours (full time) or 900 hours (part time) of
service over 11 months
35-40 hours per week (full time) or 20-25 hours per week (part time)
* Attend 5 mandatory trainings with other AWCC members.

Eligibility:

* Must be 18 years or older
* Be physically able to work outdoors and handle heavy work
* Must have a high school diploma or GED
* Be an American citizen
* Pass a criminal background check
* Agree to serve either a full time or part time appointment for 11 months.
* Have a valid driver's license (use of personal vehicle may be required).

Skills Needed:

* An interest in wetland biology and/or outreach education programs
Some wetland background is helpful but not required.
The applicant must have the ability to grasp basic ecological
principles and be able to explain them to others.
* Enthusiastic - must have a desire to play a positive role within their
community.
* Self motivated.
The applicant must be comfortable working without constant
supervision. This includes (but is not limited to) being willing to
organize community restoration events and exploring opportunities that
increase his/her general knowledge of Louisiana's wetlands.
* Be physically able and willing to handle heavy work outdoors as well as
working in an office.
* Good communication skills (both verbal and written).
* Organized

We are especially looking for members to serve in Orleans and
Jefferson parishes.
Applications will be accepted through the end of January, though any
interested individual is welcome to contact the Program Manager at any time
throughout the year.
* Program will run from Feb. 15, 2008 - Jan. 15, 2009.
