East Timbalier Island Sediment Restoration, Phase 2 COMPLETE

PROJECT LOCATION:

East Timbalier Island is in Lafourche Parish and is part of an island chain that fronts Terrebonne/Timbalier Bay.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The project will strengthen and increase the life expectancy of East Timbalier Island by placing dredged material along its landward shoreline. Additional rock may be placed on the existing breakwater in front of the island which will help protect the created area from erosion.

NOAA and DNR is currently closing out the cooperative agreements for East Tinbalier Island Phase 1 and 2. Considering the damage invoked on the island as a result of Hurricane Lily and Tropical Storm Isadore, future construction will be reassessed pursuant to engineering feasibility and the Phase 2 prioritization process.

FUND STATUS:

The current project estimate is $7,548,066 , which includes $7,455,109 for construction first costs, and $92,957 and $0 for 20 years of monitoring and operations and maintenance, respectively.
